Following the overwhelming success of last year, the DASMAXIMUM KunstGegenwart museum is celebrating the start of the new museum season in 2024 in the light of Dan Flavin's "European Couples": on Friday, February 2, 2024, all three installations by the American light art pioneer will be on display during the "Flavin by Night" event during special opening hours from 4 - 8 pm. Visitors can expect a varied program with free admission.

Dan Flavin (1933-1996) is one of the most important light artists in the world. With the 9-part installation "European Couples" from the years 1966 to 1971, DASMAXIMUM is showing one of his early major works in Traunreut. Object, architecture and the light colors on the surrounding surfaces unite to form a work of art of unlimited expanse. The colored light allows not only the walls and wooden beams, but also the viewers to become a direct part of the artwork. "Flavin by Night" offers the rare opportunity to rediscover Dan Flavin's luminous and intense world of color as the sun sets and then again and again in complete darkness.

The program focuses on Dan Flavin's work in Bavaria. Since his first exhibition at Galerie Friedrich in Munich in 1968, Dan Flavin has been a regular guest in Bavaria, whether to prepare exhibitions, plan designs for a lighting system for the 1972 Olympic Games or simply to relax by Lake Starnberg. The comprehensive installation "Untitled (For Ksenija)", which he created in 1994 for the opening of the Kunstbau of the Lenbachhaus, is an intensive testimony to his connection with the region. With the room-filling installation "European Couples", which has been on display in its entirety in Traunreut since 2011, he has created a shining monument to friends and supporters of these formative years - including Heiner Friedrich.

In the ticket hall and in the entrance area of the main hall, a series from the artist's early beginnings and late work complement the "European Couples".

A language collage by pupils from Hertzhaimer Gymnasium Trostberg, which was created as part of the ZukunftsAtelier project, can also be heard in the ticket hall in a remix by DJ Hell.

The Landgasthof Hittenkirchen once again accompanies Flavin at night with culinary delights from its food truck and warms you up with mulled wine.
