The museum season at the DASMAXIMUM museum in Traunreut has begun and has exciting projects in store for 2024

Almost 200 guests celebrated the start of the new museum season at the beginning of February with "Flavin by Night" at the DASMAXIMUM KunstGegenwart museum in Traunreut. The museum is now open to visitors again at weekends and is ready for many exciting projects in the new year.

Education

The ZukunftsAtelier 2024

February saw the start of the third round of the "ZukunftsAtelier" project, which is based on Joseph Beuys' idea of "social sculpture". This year, school classes from Chiemgau and Munich are once again invited to formulate their wishes for a better future and make them a reality through their own and collective actions. An 11th grade class from Hertzhaimer Gymnasium Trostberg with their dedicated teacher Jana Mehler will kick things off in 2024. The first module of the project takes place in the museum rooms and serves to identify wishes, concerns and ideas for the future in a neutral and creative space, to agree on a common theme and to collect initial ideas for their own "social sculpture". The pupils from Trostberg quickly came up with a rough topic: Deceleration, instead of digital information overload - Real life instead of social media - With each other, instead of against or next to each other. The aim now is to put this topic into concrete terms, set an example and take action. An 11th grade class at Schule Schloss Stein will follow in March.

In the room with Dan Flavin's light installation "European Couples" (1966-1971), the students gather their thoughts and wishes. This gives rise to initial discussions.

kunstBEWEGT - new inclusive mediation project

DASMAXIMUM is breaking new ground this summer with a new inclusive educational format in cooperation with dance teachers and choreographers Andrea Marton and Ute Schmitt. "kunstBEWEGT" is the name of the new project and invites social and educational institutions, people with and without inclusion needs, to engage with contemporary art at DASMAXIMUM through movement and dance elements. An initial information event on the new project will be held for representatives of social institutions on March 15, for which interested parties can register at the museum office.

Art encounters for children

Once again this year, "Art Encounters for Children" will be held for young visitors on one Saturday of each month. The upcoming Art Encounter on March 16 is dedicated to Maria Zerres, her colorful paintings and their numerous stories.

VHS tour: Photography in focus

Next up, however, is "Photography in Focus", the title of a special guided tour as part of the cooperation with the Traunreuter VHS. On a tour, museum director Dr. Maria Schindelegger presents works of art in which photography more or less obviously plays a role.

Exhibitions

Heide Pride & Uwe Lausen – Hubert Burda Verlag, Munich

Two new and exciting exhibition projects are also planned. For the first time since 2021, a special exhibition on the premises of Hubert Burda Verlag in Munich will showcase works by photographer Heide Stolz in combination with works by her husband, the painter Uwe Lausen, can be seen. DASMAXIMUM founder Heiner Friedrich and publisher Hubert Burda were both collectors of the artist couple and knew each other well. The exhibition project will also be enriched by lectures in Munich and Traunreut.

Maria Zerres: Drawings

The special exhibition on Arnulf Rainer, which will open in 2023, will also be replaced in June by an exhibition of drawings by the artist Maria Zerres. The painter from the "Neue Wilde" generation is part of the museum's permanent ensemble and was also responsible for the exterior design of the museum halls when they opened in 2011. With her drawings and prints, DASMAXIMUM is now showing another level of the artist, who lives and works in New York and Traunreut.

Open again: John Chamberlain at DASMAXIMUM

Just in time for the new museum season, the exhibition hall with the works of the American artist John Chamberlain, which had to close two months before the winter break due to renovation work, is finally open again.
